'The big day is almost here! See some of the Davids Bridal dresses I tried on in the process and see how they worked out'
Like most of you are aware, I am getting married to my best friend
Harald (aka @supervillainmusic) this weekend here in NYC! Since we are
DIY'ng the whole affair, the last few months have been met with planning
everything from the food to the making the signs for my epic
Wlliamsburg bridge view photobooth. As a die hard fashionista I was most
excited to shop wedding dresses! The excitement was also met with
instant fear that like most in store shopping experience I wasn't going
to be able to find, let alone try on some killer wedding gowns.
I
know shopping anything plus size can be tricky, especially when it
comes to wedding dresses.That's why I wanted to share pictures and the
brands I was loving and available at David's Bridal in hopes to make
your bridal experience a little easier. A few weeks back my bestie and
bridal party member @yusefhairnyc joined me for an afternoon in the city
at David's Bridal on 6th ave. The brand has been around for as long as I
can remember (60 years and have 300 stores worldwide) in and was one of
the main formal wear places to shop in my rural hometown of Spokane,
WA. Not to mention that they have dresses starting at low as $100 on up!
Its good to know before doing your bridal shopping that wedding gowns
run a bit small. I had to size up one to two sizes per gown.
When we walked in the DB flagship store we were met by a cheerful welcome and I instantly paired with my fit specialist who would be helping me in the dressing rooms through out the day. We spent a few hours playing dress up and trying out a handful of awesome designers like Oleg Cassini, TRULY by Zac Posen, WHITE x Vera Wang and more. They had a major selection of beautifully crystallized accessories and fantastic veils. I definitely felt like a magical princess regardless of my size and the staff was super helpful making the whole trip extremely pleasant! Bridal Collection- Fit like a dream and had beautiful detail in the
styling. I loved the way the size 18 sweetheart top fit and the gathered
bodice looked killer on! Not to mention was half the price of all the
other dresses.
Oleg Cassini - I am hands
down obsessed with this line. The styles are beautifully regal with a
twist and all of the gowns were made impeccably and average under $2k in
price. For this brand I needed to size up to a 20 dress to fit my bust
and would have to alter the hips a little to fit tighter. LOVE THIS
BRAND.
Zac Posen - Zac's design are great for those
modern girl that want a clean touch of elegance. The style I wanted was
not in stock but I was able to try on this size 20 and would need to
size down to the size 18 for a tighter fit.
Galina
Signature - The Galina dresses are great for the more simple and elegant
bride. The trumpet dress I tried on had a nice bodice detail and I
found myself adding a crystallized belt to help with fit a bit. The size
18 felt like it could be taken in a little on the sides for a sleeker
fit.
